Without the right preparation, they may view these sacraments as just a box to check instead of a life-changing encounter with Christ. When families miss this window, it’s harder to help children stay connected to their faith as they grow. That’s why timely, intentional formation is so important.

Faith Formation at Christ the King is designed to help young people understand and embrace the sacraments with joy. Through grade-level preparation, community experiences, and parish support, we help children grow in relationship with God — not just learn the right answers. Parents are also invited to take part, forming a strong foundation at home and in the parish.

Requirements

Requirements for First Communion and Confirmation

What’s needed to participate:

Children must be baptized Catholic
First Communion typically occurs in Grade 3
Confirmation prep begins in Grade 9, with the sacrament in Grade 10
Parents attend required meetings and retreats as part of the process
Students not enrolled in Catholic school must participate in parish Faith Formation classes

What if my child is older and hasn’t received First Communion yet?

That’s okay. We’ll place your child in the right preparation program based on age and needs. It’s never too late to begin.

Do we need to be parishioners to enroll?

While we prioritize registered families, you’re welcome to reach out. We’ll help you discern the best path forward based on your situation.

What if my child attends a Catholic school?

Students in Catholic schools still participate in key parts of sacramental preparation through the parish — including parent meetings, retreats, and sacrament scheduling.

Can my teen be confirmed if they didn’t attend Faith Formation before?

Yes, but they may need additional preparation depending on their background. We’ll work with you to make sure they’re ready and supported.

Is there a cost to participate?

We ask for a small program fee to help cover materials, but we never want finances to be a barrier. Assistance is always available if needed.
