Why preparation matters

Marriage is too important to go in unprepared

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, and sometimes couples focus on the event but not the marriage. Without intentional preparation, it’s easy to miss the deeper meaning of the sacrament or enter into marriage without spiritual support. The Church wants to help you build something that lasts. Skipping preparation now can lead to unnecessary struggles later.

We help you prepare with clarity and care

From your first meeting with our pastor to your wedding day, we’ll help you navigate both the practical details and the spiritual preparation. FAQs

Discover answers to common questions about Marriage.
Can we get married at Christ the King if we’re not parishioners?
In most cases, we prioritize couples with a connection to the parish, but you’re welcome to reach out. We review each request on an individual basis.
You can still be married in the Catholic Church. The Catholic party must agree to continue practicing the faith and to do their best to raise any children Catholic.
Preparation typically spans several months. It includes meetings with a priest or deacon, Pre-Cana classes, and liturgy planning.
You may celebrate your marriage within a full Mass or as a ceremony without Communion. Typically, if both spouses are Catholic, a Mass is encouraged. If one spouse is not Catholic, a ceremony without Communion may be recommended to honor everyone’s participation. Your priest will help you discern the best option.
If either person has been previously married (civil or religious), an annulment process must be completed and granted before a Catholic wedding can be scheduled. This ensures the Church recognizes freedom to enter a new sacramental marriage.
